The Chicago Cubs, founded in 1876, are one of the oldest active teams in major North American sports. Despite this long history, the Cubs faced a famous 108-year World Series drought, the longest in the history of MLB, from 1908 until they finally won in 2016. This period, known as the “Curse of the Billy Goat,” was an infamous part of the team’s legacy. The curse was said to have begun in 1945 when a local tavern owner was asked to leave a World Series game at the Cubs’ home stadium, Wrigley Field, due to the odor of his pet goat. The Cubs’ victory in 2016, led by stars like Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant, brought a long-awaited celebration to the North Side of Chicago. Beyond the World Series win, the Cubs have a storied history with legendary players such as Ernie Banks and Ron Santo, and iconic broadcaster Harry Caray.
